My blog is a way I collect links and where I publicly spend a minute or two reflecting on those links.  The last few days I’ve viewed a couple dozen “how to” photography videos and I came upon one I wanted to embed in this site.  However, this feature was disabled by the author on YouTube.  I’m sure he’s experienced a bit of frustration with people cross posting his content, but I view this a bit different…I actually like when people re-use my content on their web sites and attribute me as the author.  While I’ll post a link on this outdoor photographers video, I did hesitate in promoting the link on this web site.  I’m curious if there were other’s who wouldn’t post this video link on their own web sites, but not so much as to want to search them out and put their comments here!

Some photos remind me of my youth…watching my Grandpa drive a tractor was one of my favorite past times before I grew up enough to go to school.  Perhaps that’s why this photo sits so well with my soul.

PhotoGavin created a great video on the basics of using a flash outdoors.  Incorporating the final photos while the video runs makes this an exceptional learning tool.  Loved the use of the wireless synchs and the 1/250th synch speed note.

I’ve discovered YouTube as a source for my learning of portrait photography.  I’m posting on this blog for two purposes to share with my readers is an obvious plus.  For my own personal gain I’ll type a sentence or two what I liked about the video.

From this video I' learned two points.  Have the family dress in long sleeves and break down groups of people into smaller units and combinations.

Dan Winter’s video has left an impression on me like no other.  4:26 to change your view on the passion it takes to be a pro photographer…

This is a video that only a photographer will appreciate.  Seriously, a guy who uses his flying super power to save a photoshoot?

...I grew strong

“You look like you are in the Volturi” was the best comment I received about this photo when I posted it as my FaceBook profile picture.  The second best comment was the one were Lauretta said I looked like a witch hunter.

I was surprised that no one made any references to my title “…I grew strong”  I was referencing my growth in my lighting capabilities that this picture illustrates.  I still didn’t get all the shadows removed that I’d hoped.  Down below you’ll see my setup shot.

Strobist info:  Above me was my trusty 285HV in a straw gridded snoot at full power.  below and in front of me was a bare Canon 550EX at 1/64 power all triggered by Cactus V4 triggers.  A white reflector was at my feet angled toward my face.

Photo info:

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 39 mm
Exposure: 0.00
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Strobist, two flash and reflector
